My mommy sent me this, pretty funny:

Excerpt from a dog's dairy:

8:00 am - Dog food! My favourite thing!
9:30 am - A car ride! My favourite thing!
9:40 am - A walk in the park! My favourite thing!
10:30 am - Got rubbed and petted! My favourite thing!
12:00 pm -  Lunch! My favourite thing!
1:00 pm - Played in the yard! My favourite thing!
3:00 pm - Wagged my tail! My favourite thing!
5:00 am - Milk bones! My favourite thing!
6:00 pm - Ooooh, bath. Bummer. My favourite thing!
7:00 pm - Got to play ball! My favourite thing!
8:00 pm - Wow! Watched V with the people! My favourite thing!
11:00 pm - Sleeping on the bed! My favourite thing!

Excerpt from a cat's diary

Day 983 of my captivity.

My captor's continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.

They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The onlty thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse anbd dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bastards.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. I could hear that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies" I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he walking. I must try this again tomorrow--but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special priveleges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now........

Suddenly it all becomes so clear!!!

I have always hated cats, and could never quite put my finger on why.....

I finally see the truth!  They are an evil alien race out to enslave our planet, infiltrating our homes and lives in an attempt to lull us into a sense of complacency while they quietly corrupt our sensibilities in preparation for the day when they finally enslave us all.....as they have already apprently done to poor Ryukan......I sure will miss him.

Humans unite!!! Fight the furry little bastards with all your conviction and save our planet!

PS, don't forget to spay and neuter........

Battered By The ShamWow Guy

Prostitute's mug shot show injuries inflicted by TV pitchman

MARCH 30--In last month's violent confrontation between the ShamWow Guy and a South Beach prostitute, there is no doubt which combatant took the worst of the battle. As seen in the below mug shot and the profile here, Sasha Harris, 26, was left with a pair of black eyes and other injuries after tangling with Vince Shlomi, 44, in a room at the swanky Setai hotel. As TSG previously reported, Shlomi told cops that he met Harris in a Miami Beach nightclub and later paid her about $1000 for "straight sex." But when the TV pitchman tried to kiss Harris, she allegedly bit his tongue and would not let go. Shlomi told cops that he punched Harris several times until she released his bleeding tongue. Shlomi and Harris were both treated at the Mount Sinai Medical Center before being booked for felony aggravated battery (hence the matching hospital smocks). Prosecutors this month declined to pursue formal charges against either brawler. (3 pages)

Check out the other article, it's got pre-beatthecrapoutta mugshots.

Aaaaaah ... Scientists Learn Why Scratching Feels So Good
Monday, April 06, 2009

Print ShareThisScratch an itch and you get ... aaaaaah. Now scientists have watched spinal nerves transmit that relief signal to the brain in monkeys, a possible step toward finding new treatments for persistent itching in people.

More than 50 conditions can cause serious itching, including AIDS, Hodgkin's disease and the side effects of chronic pain treatment, said Glenn J. Giesler, Jr., a neuroscientist at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Some terminal cancer patients even cut back on pain medication just to reduce the itch, he said.

Scratching can lead to serious skin damage and infections in people with chronic itch, he said. So scientists want to find ways for such people to relieve their distress "without tearing up their skin," he said.

While medications can relieve some kinds of itch, other cases resist current treatments.

Nobody knows just how scratching relieves itch. But the federally funded monkey study, reported Monday on the Web site of the journal Nature Neuroscience by Giesler and colleagues, takes a step in unraveling the mystery.

The scientists focused on a kind of spinal nerve that transmits the "itch" signal to the brain. These nerves reach into the brain from near the bottom of the rib cage.

The researchers sedated long-tailed macaques for the experiment and placed recording electrodes on their spinal nerves. They injected a chemical into the skin of a leg to produce itching. The nerves fired electrical signals in response.

Then the researchers scratched the leg with a hand-held metal device that simulates three monkey fingers. The firing rate dropped — the apparent signature of the "relief" signal.

In contrast, when researchers scratched the leg without causing an itch first, the firing rate jumped. So the nerves somehow "know" to react much differently if there's an itch to be relieved than if there isn't.

"It's like there's a little brain" in the spinal cord, Giesler said. "We really want to understand that, because then we think we'll understand how to relieve itch."

Maybe scientists can identify signals that tell these nerves to provide the relief response, and then try to mimic that action with drugs or some kind of stimulator, he said.

Dr. Gil Yosipovitch of the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., who didn't participate in the study, said in an e-mail that his own work shows that particular brain circuits also play a role in how scratching quells itch.

He called the new study "very important" and said it opens further research on the nervous system and itching.

Wow...I am almost wondering how much money they spent on this crap...but then again it would probly just make me tear out some more hair and gnash my teeth and such.

I just watched an episode of "Into the Unknown With Josh Bernstein" called Why Elephants Attack. The interesting part was not why elephants attack or anything about roaving gangs of elephants gone bad, but dealt with an interesting method to deter elephants from invading farms and such....BEES! Some fairly conclusive research revealed that elephants definitely have a fear of bees. That was enough to give me a good laugh.

...re: dogs/cats.  yes, dogs do have an overall positive attitude regarding dangnear everything...enthus iasm for felines? that should be an easy one: Wolfhounds will tolerate a "family pet" cat; alien outdoor cats though are definitely in the extreme danger zone (skunks, and particularly porcupines likewise...the quills or stink don't matter, the critters are PWND-DOA...those stories are perhaps a bit too gruesome for this so, onward).  I recall an instance perhaps 25 yrs ago while living in Wyoming: watching four wolfhounds in close pursuit of a large feral puddytat (this was at our place waaaaaay out in the hills) - said kitty actually clawed its way up the side of the ruff wood house siding to the roof...literally a cartoon scene hard too believe even when you see it!

...and besides, they taste like chicken

elephants scared of bees?: another of astonishing the countless, often astonishing truths that abound in Nature...i'm continually amazed at the existing
critters, from dust mites to the blobfish http://www.outdoorlife.com/photos/gallery/fishing/2009/03/uglyfish?photo=2 and lumpfish http://www.outdoorlife.com/photos/gallery/fishing/2009/03/uglyfish?photo=5 and what have you ad infinitum...

thanks to Ryukan for that tidbit; i'll have to watch for that program to repeat...
